in agriculture. My father owned a 1 AC plot of land where we grew fresh vegetables & fruits also My brother & I who was 2 yrs younger than I started chopping cotton at ages 10 & 8 for about 10c an hr. We were so good at it we started contracting our svcs out to farmers to do their whole crops, however, a few yrs later the farmers told us he found someone to do the work cheaper, go home. I got a good job at 18 as an apprentice printer & later a classified telemarketing rep. I worked 47 yrs before being asked to resign or be fired for alcoholism. I've had 3 blackouts requiring hospitiization, kidney failure & exremely high blood pressure. Now here's the capper I just got a letter from Social Security telling me I'm not disabled & don't need any medical help, GO GET A JOB!! I get $226 a mo from my retirement. WHAT would you do in my shoes??? I think the system is overloaded with people who have not paid into it, therefore effectively leaving me out in the cold.

It is standard procedure for Social Security to turn down your disability claim. They make you fight for it. Get a doctor to write you a statement telling them you need to be on disability. Line up as many people as possible to testify in your behalf, and get an attorney who specializes in S. S. disability claims. There are ones who, that's all they do. They are not extremely expensive and if they think you should be on disability and that you'll win, they'll usually do it on a contingency basis.

#1 Get clean and sober. Nothing else in your life can be repaired until you do that.
#2 While it isn't fair, it happens to everyone. Being black isn't the problem. SSA denies everyone. Welfare denies everyone over 21 and under 65. You, like me, are in that category. I'm not even going to tell you the details of my health problems.
#3 If after getting sober you still feel you can't work with all your experience, then apply again. I'm in a reapplication process now. Supposedly the only way to get it is to get a lawyer. But who to call?
#4 All is not lost. You have an income of $226 a month which is more than the rest of us. You qualify for most senior housing after age 55. Fresno has alot of mobile parks and senior places. Ask around for help and I bet you will find it.
#5 if you have a wife or family, now is the time to ask them to pitch in
Good luck.
