I've done a lot of research on it, and personally haven't had much luck but the one thing that REALLY helps is starting a dream journal. Record every single dream you have on something as soon as you wake up and put as much detail as you possibly can. Trust me this works, because when i started doing that it helped. Also a couple times a day just stare at a clock till your mind gets in the habit of it and then when you dream you might do the same thing. MOST LIKELY the clock will change into something completely different or change time dramatically and you would know it's a dream. Look it up online there are a ton of sources on this topic.

I love peoples answers on here.
Ok. I really need to cut and paste this stuff.
I've read tons of information on lucid dreaming on lucidity.com, dreamviews.com, ben something, and ld4all.com and ld4all is the best I've seen.
Keep an open mind. I have honestly used these following methods and know they are possible.
WBTB (wake back to bed) which is the easiest way for many to achieve lucidity.
MILD (Mnemonic Induction Of Lucid Dreams ) which is getting it into your subconscious that you will have a lucid dream ( usually when you're going to bed).
WILD (Wake Induced Lucid Dream) where you stay conscious as your body falls asleep. You will be able to consciously enter your dream. WILD seems to be a favorite of many, but it's usually more difficult. I have only been able to use WILD once successfully.
Reality checks (RC) quite often help many people. Remember to do at least 2 RCs at a time. I didn't fly in my dream so I thought it was real life.
When you achieve lucidity, please stay calm. Spin (remember that you are dreaming as you spin) around if you feel that you are losing lucidity or waking up. It's common for the scenery to change when you spin, too.
There is no absolute technique to have lucid dreams. I had most of mine before I ever started my journal, and I still don't have the best dream recall.
And about why would anyone want to have a lucid dream such as auntibubble asked....you can do anything you want such as fly, swing through town like Spiderman, turn into an animal etc etc etc. The possibilities are endless. Why wouldn't you??

There is no sure way to achieve a lucid dream. Some things that have been helpful for others are:
1. Keep a dream journal. Every time you wake up record everything you remember about your dream. Keep a notebook and pen near your bed. Write it all down as soon as you wake up, even in the middle of the night when you get up to pee.
2. Establish a pattern while you are awake, and try to alter reality. For instance, every time you look at your watch pay attention to the time, look away and tell yourself to see something different when you look back. If it changes, you are dreaming and have gained control of your dream. Try to stay calm when this happens. Getting too excited over the realization of a lucid dream can easily wake you.

pick something that you'll see in reality and in ur dreams like trees or a pet, or the sky, somethin like that. Then whenever you see that object, determine whether or not you're awake however you want. Eventually you'll start doing that in ur dreams. I had to do this so that I would stop mixing up reality with my dreams b/c I have unbelievably vivid dreams.
Also, I had lucid dreams for like 3 weeks strait when the computer in my room started acting up and flickering... I don't know if that'll help you any but when I left it off they became much less common. I don't know why.

as soon as you realize your dreaming, put your hands in front of your face and realize that you are in control of another body. i like looking at my hands in my dreams, makes me feel good to be alive in a whole new body. then i just lift up my legs and float away.

There is amoment just before one loses conscience and falls asleep, if one keeps trying to take one's conscience into de dream realm... one might be aware of one self in that realm... but becareful what you wish for. In that realm there's not only dreams... there are nightmares also. Seek guidance before you go to it alone, just a sugestion.
