Did you use the Add / Remove program found in the Control Panel to remove then? If you just highlighted them and hit delete they are only deleted until the computer is rebooted.
If the Add / Remove program does not get rid of them, go to Start > Run > Msconfig > Start up.
Look at the list of files that is displayed. Can you match up any of the file names with the unwanted Icons? If so uncheck all that apply. They will not show on your desktop when you reboot.

Sounds like you got more than the usual update,I recently updated Firefox and did not have your problem. If you are sure its Mozzilla related I would uninstall and download the latest version from Mozilla.org and not from any other site. You can right click on the icons,go to properties, then click on Find Target to locate the program that the shortcut leads to.

OK you have spyware in your PC
but it is not safe to scan for the spyware on the infected system
if you have dual booting system then restart to the another system and try the anti-spyware

if you don't have another OS then maybe you will need a technican

if you want i can try to access your PC and try to fix the problem (i am computer since student) but use this option only in the hopeless case because it is unsafe to allow someone you don't know to access your pc
