That's because what is an alien is not scientific. It is based on pure definition. An alien is a living thing (preferably intelligent) that's from another planet. We are intelligent living things, but we are from Earth, which from the frame of reference of Earth is not another planet. However, from the frame of reference of another planet, we are aliens.

There are some theories that say that we actually came from Mars and that we messed up that planet so bad, that we came to Earth. I believe this is possible, though I'm not certain yet. Look at Mars now. Deserts. Some frozen water and CO2 at the poles. Maybe some underground water. But mostly barren. And now we're doing the same thing to this planet. There's the possibility that the "Eden" mentioned in the Bible was actually Mars.

We cannot be aliens to ourselves by the definition of the word. Most professional astronomers do not call life from other places "aliens" we call them extraterrestrials which means "outside earth"

By definition, alien means belonging to another culture - so any life from another planet will be alien to us and, if they learn English, they will call us aliens
