I have had itching and skin eruptions start as soon as 30 minutes after contact. Usually it seems to take about 24 hours, even after immediate and careful washing.

Good luck with your poison ivy problem.

The oils absorb into your skin in minutes and the rash usually occurs within 24 hours. This depends on your sensitivity to it of course. The oil then bonds with your skin and can not be washed off with soap and water.
As a landscaper I can tell you that the only product that removes the oil is called Tehcnu. It is a liquid soap like product that breaks the bond the oil makes with you skin and will remove it weather it has been ten minutes or two days. It is effective even after you have broken out in the rash as the oil stays active for more than a week.
Be sure to wash the Technu off completely though as it does remove the oil and bring it to the skin surface.

it's different for every person, depending on how allergic they are to the oil in poison ivy. THe last time I got it, it took over 24 hours for the itching to start. YOu have about a 10 minute time span to wash the oil off after contact, and if you don't, the allergic reaction will start and you can only aleviate the itching, it has to work itself out.

For me, it takes about 2 days or maybe a day and a half. Then it's 2 or 3 weeks of pure torture.

Been clean for over 5 years now, knock on wood!

it am a sucker for a wandering poison ivy vine in one of my gardens. If I see one i have to get at it (I lack supervision at times). It usually takes 3-4 days to show up on me and then it's a killer.
