at 12 weeks, especially if its the 1st ultrasound for this particular pregnancy, what we would like to see are the following:

if the patient is indeed pregnant (esp for expectant mothers who missed their period but didn't have a pregnancy test done);

if the pregnancy is indeed intrauterine (meaning within the uterine cavity, and not outside, as in ectopic pregnancy);

the number of fetuses (single, twin, triplets, ???);

the status of the fetus(es) - regular fetal heart beat, fetal movements;

fetal age (at this time usually based on the crown-rump length), to confirm whether the sonographic age tallies with the expected age based on your last menstrual period;

amniotic fluid volume;

location/position of the placenta.

the conclusion whether your pregnancy is proceeding normally will be based on the answers to the above findings.

oh, and congratulations!!!

umm midwife ...not to sure she isn't a professional in that department of reading the ultrasound...now if she gets the info from the tech that depends on if the tech corresponds the facts or theories with her he should do facts then if so it will be from how long the child id how much it weighs at this point and what it should be if you continue on the same diet and exercise..also if you have 3 or less tubes going to the baby( where the belly button goes )hint you want 3 also you can see where the placenta is located.. ummm ..I think that is it...can't remember much more....its Ben 7 years since I had a kid..good luck

She'll be able to confirm how far along you are and hear the heartbeat. You'll be able to see the head, body, arms and legs, but that's about it. In a few weeks she'll be able to tell you a lot more.

if there is a heartbeat, how far along you are, how many babies are in there, and also if there appears to be any abnormalities.

congrats xx
