No, you're supposed to do regular housekeeping to keep them in good running order. You wouldn't expect a car to run well without a regular service?

No. It's when there are lot of programs and junk are there or when there is a lack of memory, the pc slows down. 1 way to speed up the pc is by removing unwanted software and files. But even spyware contributes to slowing down the pc. There fore have an anti-spyware program installed. Or the best thing is to format the pc!

no
try runing a spyware program Spyware will slow your PC down and defrag the drive
check your startup section you are probably running too many programs in the back ground reduce them to a minimum
as your pc is a few years old you could speed it up a bit by adding more memory if you have the space
this may help

PCs are actually programmed for their memory to go down and down every year to allow for other programs to work properly. When your computer starts to get slower it means the amount of memory required on your PC has overlapped the gradually reducing initial memory on your computer. When the computer tries to increase its memory and then is unable to everything stops and that's when the computer crashes.

no the hardware is outdated by faster moving hardware, and programs demand more power and speed, the old comps are not able to cope with it.
like an old car, keeping the parts already used in it's making, engine etc, just look at the speed limits on the roads, an old car could not achieve those speeds as it was not required, but today better faster, designs have no problem.

As a tech myself, I often find that its the USER that has got FASTER doing things more than the computer slowing down. :-)

Generally, newer software needs more memory to run, so either keep to old versions of the same software, or upgrade the machine.

Without knowing your specs I couldn't advise what to upgrade first, but normally memory is the fastest / cheapest way to get a machine running faster.
