It's natural to be depressed over a break up. It's better to at first try and get your mind fixed on other things before thinking of medication. Spend more time with family and friends. Get really focused in your work if you have a job. Read more books, (stay away from music sometimes it tends to be nostalgic). Get a journal/diary rather it's online or on paper and write out your feelings. If this all fails and you feel the need for counseling, then go for it, but I feel medication is a last resort. You can pull through it, time is the essense and time is the remedy......you will pull out of this stronger and you will be OK.

Start with counseling. Perscription drugs should be up to you AND your doctor/counselar. Leaning why you are depressed over the breakup and how you can live a better life after it should be the main goals - with whether or not drugs should come into play a very distant second.
All my best to you in getting back on an even keel--

Talk to a counselor...your idea of seriously depressed and their idea of severely depressed may not match. Depression is normally after a breakup, for a while anyway.
Don't try to self medicate, leave that to the professionals. Odds are good you won't need any, just someone to talk to.
And remember, no ex is worth making yourself depressed over.

Seek counseling, and if your doctor recommends medication, by all means, take it. But what you really need is time, the hurt will heal, but there is no magic cure to make it go isntantly away.

no you don't need professinal help or meds you need to wake up and look in the mirror
tell yourself how beautiful you are, make a list of all you have to offer and the good things about you and you'll come to see that it was so his loss. don't ever let and man bring you down beacuse he' s probaly moved on. so open the window, take a shower, do you hair, shop, get your nails done and feel good about yourself this is most likely and obstacle to find mr. right
good luck and please take this advice oh and remeber hes not worth the tears

You'll get over it. Just talk with a good friend or write your thoughts out. Don't medicate yourself over something so trivial or you will be medicating yourself your whole life. There are better alternatives than pills.
