The bottom of your tomato turns black and rots. This is caused by a calcium deffiecieny in your soil. You may be able to save some of them by putting some powdered milk around the plants and watering it in good. I always put about a 1/4cup of powdered milk right in the hole with the plants when setting them out. Since I started doing this I have never had a problem with blossom end rot. Also, I have heard of but never actually tried using them, but an antacid such as tums should work well also. In my experience is had more problems with Italian type tomatoes (Roma) than with other types.

when you pick the tomato, the underside will be black and often concave. This is blossom rot. It is caused by irregular watering (too many dry spells). Now is the time to keep your tomato patch watered regularly to prevent blossom rot later on.

blossom rot is caused by a MAGNESIUM deficiency, not calcium or what ever,, apply a hand full of epsom salts around the base of the plant and water it in,, do not over water your plants as this is what washes away minerals to begin with,,
