what makes earth to spin

It was set spinning as the Earth formed. The earth formed from a large spinning disc of dust and gas. As it spun, the solid material congealed to the center and as it did so, formed into a sphere. This was all part of a much larger disc of dust and gas (the solar system) which has the sun at the center. The spinning motion was great enough to last billions of years as there have been no forces acting against that spin.

In a nutshell: As the Earth formed, it was spinning. There have been no forces acting on it to significantly slow it down so it still spins!

i'm not sure if you mean "spin" on its axis or "spin" around the sun. i'll answer both though.

1) spin on its axis

in a single phrase "conservation of angular momentum"

let's back up. linear momentum is an objects mass times its (linear) velocity, usually denoted p = mv. for circular rotation the angular momentum is the objects mass times velocity times its radial distance, usually denoted L =mvr.

Now, angular momentum is a conserved quantity, meaning (sort of) whatever you start out with you end up with. A popular example is that of a figure skater rotating in place. as the skater starts to rotate his\her arms are extended and the rotation is fairly slow. at this moment the skater has some angular momentum, as the skater pulls his\her arms closer to his\her body the rate of rotation increases. we can see from L = mvr that if L is to be the same in both cases then if the radius decreases ( arms pulled in) and since the mass doesn't change the only way to keep L the same is to increase v , the velocity.

theory suggests that the earth and planets formed from spinning clouds of dust and particles etc. the point is that the stuff that formed the earth was spinning when it began to come together. there is no friction in space so , unlike our figure skater who will eventually slow down and stop, the slowly spinning earth continued to spin. as more stuff got pulled together gravity began shaping the earth and pulling the stuff closer still and increasing the rate of rotation to what it is today about 1 revolution every 24hrs.

2) spin around the sun

gravity, whatever gravity really is.
