We just moved to Nashville from Chicago. No Sonics in Chicago. Is the customer suppose to tip? My wife says no, I say yes. What is the norm?

No tips. That doesn't mean they don't appreciate them.
If it's raining or I have a really big order - I might tip at Sonic.

Not that they make a LOT of money there, but they're not making 'wait-staff wages' which is less than $3/hour.

If you pay by debit/credit card - there's not even a line available to give them a tip.

Usually yes, but normally not all that much. Say you have a tab of 23.83, to hand over $25 dollars and let her keep the change is usually more than generous. Those girls are in it for the tips. they work at the reduced wage of a waitress, and depend on the extra change from their many customers during the day to make up the difference.

i worked at sonic in nashville for 2 years, and let me tell you, i made about 500 a week in tips alone. i usually got about 5 dollars for every order i took out, and they were about 13-20 dollar orders. by the way, i live in michigan now, but i still make homemade cherry-limeaides. LOVE EM

When I was 15 I worked there. At the time my older brother Henry sent me $150 every month.
I was living in NY.I was always broke,So I really depended on the extra money. Not many people do though unless they think your cute or had a big order.

They used to have stickers on the menu that say "Don't forget to tip your carhop"...but not anymore so I'm not sure. I don't tip anymore, and they're still as friendly as can be! I think they make more than waiters do, that's for sure.

In GA they make under 3.00 an hour I asked them and the manager told me that is true. If they wear skates they make a little more money
