This is a tricky question:

The casino owners hold the upper hand when it comes to the odds of you winning at one. While counting cards in blackjack isn't *illegal*, in that there is no law against it. However, if the casino security boys see you winning too much, or suspect you are card counting, they'll still throw you out of their casino, since they have the legal right to toss out anyone they want. Then, they'll use their handy-dandy security toys to snap your photo, and send it to pretty much every casino you'd want to visit. This way, you won't even get inside once they've got a photo of how much space your eyes are far apart, which can never be altered by makeup or disguises.

Just ask anyone from the famous M.I.T. black jack team...

yes, but the best way is to only play 1-5 hands, then go to another table - far away from the one you were just at - , bet big when you know you are going to win. the biggest mistake most card counters make is staying too long at the same table let alone the same casino

It's legal, but so hard to do mentally at a multi-deck blackjack table that it isn't practical. Unless of course you have a degree at MIT

It's legal, but not preferred by casino owners. It could give you a higher advantage to winning more of their money!

no it isn't but is impossible to prove you can basically do it in your head and act like your being very lucky though they can get suspicious so don't win constantly or go to another table every now and then.

NO, but they can throw you out if you are caught (or they think you are doing it). There are no laws against it. Using a device is illegal.

none of the casinos consider it proper and will eject you if they detect it, it is not against the law or they would have you arrested

No... but they can't prove it if you do it in your head. There aren't many single deck tables anymore for that reason.
