Women's Studies is a program in Colleges and Universities. Since men through the centuries have dominated the world scene/home/industry/everywhere else, there is research into such things as inequality to see just in what ways it has effected women, and their children. The inequalities exist today in each and every country. Women still have significiantly lower pay for same/similar work, women's traditional jobs are still undervalued, and things that are important to women are also still undervalued - in every country. We have come a long way but since the seventies and the chaos that the women's movement has brought in, we have also taken several steps back. So...we take a look at these things in an academic way.

It has only been the last 50 years or so that anyone has paid any attention to the roles and importance of women in history, society or even life in general. Even the word history is a shortened version of "his story". Until just a little while ago, women were considered property, like a house or shoes.
Women's studies teaches about women's history, amoung other things and gives a voice where there wasn't one.

Because "women's studies" is a real college degree. There are professors who have PhD in women's studies, as stupid as that might be.

But because men are so debased and loathed in modern society who would want to study them?

A bunch of physcho femminists decided that they wanted to be thought of as better than men so they made of some tripe about women being a minority (there's actually more women than men in the world but they don't want you to know that) so they would have some leverage to get ahead.

And at the girl who said all the Vikings were men, who do you think ran the entire Viking culture during the summer? The women of course, all the men were busy raiding England and the women were the ones who actually did everything. and they did get credit for it, despite what your femmie friends want you to think.

A lot of women on here are so sexist. What hypocrites, you speak of how bad men are and you like to downplay a mans worth, isn't Women's studies supposed to teach us that we are equals and that being educated is empowerment. So, it doesnt make you look good by talking so much trash. Some people on here need to grow up and get over their bad relationships.

HIStory!!! Most of history was about men, not women. There were some exceptions, of course (Cleopatra... Nephertiti... etc.). Otherwise, think about it. Start with Caesar, if you will. Then, the Vikings (all males), Paul Revere, etc. Why bother to have classes on men's studies, when HIStory is loaded with talk about the males? Even Neanderthal men were men... etc. etc. This is simply put -- I could go on, but you should get the point.

Men's studies are everywhere.
History, science, anthropology, sports, health, history, etc, etc.
Women finally have studies of their own.
We are finally able or still trying to understand ourselves and other women.
This is why it's called women's studies.
Because men have dominated every study out there.

Women are considered a minority by most standards and therefore there are courses offered to study this minority, the history and integration into the dominant white male world...
