Has he gained respect in the public's eye for the sole fact he has outlived all the "good" Kennedys? This guy killed a girl and was on scene for the rape of another, why is he still allowed to serve in the Senate?
Try to answer this question with an answer. If you're like Noncompassionate Liberal try not to point the finger elsewhere and deal with the question at hand.

Where's he gained respect? The same people that didn't like him before still don't like him and never will.
One thing he SHOULD be commended for was seeing through Bush's bull$hit and not voting to enable that unnecessary war.

His behavior during the events at Chappaquiddick was bad behavior, but I do not believe that he intentionally killed anyone. It was an accident and he tried avoid any responsibility.
I think, even tho I am not liberal, he has been a strong voice in the Senate for the environment, for the rights of the poor and for equal rights for all.
Perhaps all that he has accomplished legitimizes him.

35 years ago, he was in a tragic car accident and left the scene.
Since then, he has been a fighter for human rights, education, the environment.
BTW, he won the 2003 George Bush Award for Excellence in Public Service, directly from the hands of former President George H.W. Bush himself.

Politicians get special privileges, including getting away with murder (literally) in some cases. What's new about that? Actually, I've often thought that being a criminal is a prerequisite requirement for serving in the government.
I don't think he has gained any tremendous amount of true respect. People vote for him because he gets their laws passed through I would assume.

He is still in the Senate because MA citizens think he does a good job. Even with all of his faults, he is still extremely intelligent (unlike a few other high powered Congressmen). And lets face it, we need a few left wingers to help balance the right wingers in control.
PS--don't knock moonshining! Moonshiners are going to be extremely wealthy once ethanol takes off!

Him and the rest of the Kennedy's aren't so great. JFK and his brother Robert cause alot of people to get killed during the Bay of Pigs. They have alot of dirty laundry and the drunk ted is just a leftover! He remains in office because he is a Kennedy and that's the only reason!

Honestly, I think it's pity. The people of Massachusetts feal sorry about all the things that happened to the Kennedy family, so they keep sending the drunken murderer to the Senate.
