Phoenix is growing quickly, so the prices are outrageous. Do you already have a job there? It is a large city, so it may make a difference where you will be working; the traffic is very heavy at certain times of the day.

We live in Phoenix, near Bethany Home Road and 35th Ave. It is a great area--we live on a super street with red brick houses. There has been some major redevelopment in the area. The houses in this area are selling for around $200k-$250k depending on size. You can probably still get houses in the high $100s if they need work. Our neighborhood is still a pretty good deal for being in town. I like that we are close to the I-17 freeway. Email me if you have more questions--I'll try and help.
