I think they both have their merits.

Douglas Adams was active in both adaptations and has frequently said that each incarnation of "Hitchhiker's Guide" is unique.

While the series may be more complete and closer to the story of the book, the new movie has some really great moments - namely the visualization of the improbablility drive. While I disagreed with some of the choices that were made, it's still a fun movie.

Somehow I don't think Douglas Adams would want you to take it too seriously. Don't Panic, right?

I think the books were the best of all.
