I thought that I.M. was gonna be a fun way to chat to people. And meet new friends. However, I have about 3 people on my messenger list and none of them seem to ever be on-line? Isn't anyone out there bored?

The 3 people on your IM probably have outside interests, hence they're not at their computers.
You probably need to do the same - spend time with your friends in the outside world. If they use IM then add them too. You're more likely to build up your contacts list from people you know than from randoms in a chat room.

You have to get tons and tons of people on your messenger list. 3 people isn't nearly enough. Go for 300. Find chat rooms and go from there. Good luck!
