Is a game as a player in your national team.

Cap:
a recognition earned by a player for each appearance in an international game for his country.

For example the Fifa's Web Page says about the Players: International Caps, meaning the number of games that a person has played with his national team in a international competition.

"Cap" is the term for "appearance in an International game".

So a player with "14 caps" has played in 14 games for his national team.

I'm not sure if folks use the term "caps" for club games too. I also don't know if they get actual caps. I doubt it.
