the earlier you start the better. Recycling is a very good place to start they can learn which bin to put certain things into. Get them to shout "litter bug" if they see someone dropping rubbish on the floor like my son does. He is 5 and when you see the look of embarrassment on their faces its so fun!!! lol.
Walking or cycling is healthy for them aswell as the environment and can be done from a very young age as stabilizers can be used.
Teaching them respect for ALL living things including trees which are often abused by children pulling branches off them and breaking the newly growing trees in half.
These are just to start with. As they grow new things can be introduced relative to their ability to understand.

Recycle! It is done in every other country religiously and so very easy to do since the recycling containers are color coded and it is a great way for learning not only how to help the earth, but also their colors!

By breaking the consume - discard mentality handed down by their parents. Conserve energy, take the bus, share rides.
Donate your old cell phones, recycle and dispose of electronic devices in an environmentally friendly way.
Discard the old "Yuppie" ME generation attitudes. Be happy to live modestly.
