You should go talk to your doctor to make sure you're ok. It could be something simple, like just being irregular, or it could be something really bad.

It is probably hormonal.
The #1 hormone - because it can affect the production of all the other hormones - is insulin. Ask your doctor for a fasting insulin blood test . Ask for a copy of your results. 10 or higher is abnormal for an adult.
Also ask for a saliva test. This test will tell you if any of your feminine hormones are not at the best levels. You are probably low on progesterone. I was.
I do not like doctors who prescribe birth control hormones without testing first. When that happened to me - dysfunctional uterine bleeding (DUB) - what you are describing - the birth control shot he gave me switched me from low blood sugar to diabetes.
If you have the low progesterone, there is wild yam cream you can get at your local health food store. Wild yam (the South American kind) has natural progesterone. It takes a while (like a few days) but it works, and is natural.
You may want to check out www.hufa.org, and click on the symptoms link to check yourself out for other symptoms that can be associated with high insulin.

Ok, as a mother and someone who had some problems in this area for several years, PLEASE go to a gynecologist. Skip the middle man, usually your family doctor, who may not have the experience or knowledge to help you. I went to my family Dr. for 4 months in a row when I was having terrible knife pain before, during and after my period. Finally my Dr. gave up and sent me to a gynecologist, who diagnosed me with endometreosis and scheduled me for a hysterectomy ASAP. During surgery, they discovered that my uterus was swollen to the size of a football instead of the normal size of a fist. I have never felt better, since the surgery. Long story short, go to the experts and don't waste time. Good Luck!

40 days is not not normal for a period. You need to go see a doctor so that you can get ahold f what is going on with your body. A period for 40 days can possibly suggest some type of serious health issue. Please go see a doc:)

40 days and 40 nights....."WOW" that's almost biblical.
Do you think your first born will be special?
When the time comes.....should we look for a star in the east?
