It's both.
All medicine has a placebo effect--just believing medicine will help you can make you better. That's why in medical trials they have to have a control group who is TOLD they are getting the real thing but are really getting an inert substance.
Part of how Reiki works is that the person is totally relaxed. A lot of illnesses are caused by or exacerbated by, stress. A regular treatment involves regular relaxation.
There is definitely an energetic component. I have seen Reiki work amazing results on animals which can't be a placebo effect and a Reiki treatment on an animal doesn't involve the relaxation it does with a human.

I would have to say no unless you consider ones will to be paranormal. Wait, now that I think of a somewhat recent scenario concerning will...hmm...this question is making me think harder than expected! BAH! Quick story part 1: I hear that generic Darvisets(?) are mostly placebo pain pills. Darvisets never ever relieved any pain I ever had after a couple surgeries. Was I actually relieved of pain, and the pain I actually felt an imaginary pain or did they actually not work? Part 2:After 1 surgery, I woke up from anesthesia and was shivering. The nurse grabbed my foot and applied pressure to a certain point and the shivering went away...briefly. I started shivering again and she quickly pressed on that point again and it went away, this time the shivering stopped completely. In hindsight, I had faith that the pain pills would have helped and they didn't(matter over mind I guess). Also, at the time, if someone would have told me that a pressure point would stop me from shivering, I would not have believed it(mind over matter? Someone else's mind over my matter?). I do believe that the mind is capable of many things that are considered paranormal. Maybe it is just the individual in question that determines whether it is paranormal or not. I don't know if I answered your question but there you go anyways ;)

I have experienced healing with Reiki and other alternative medicine methods. I love the way I feel when I work with a healer, and I love the peace afterward.

I believe it is real. Everything has energy in it, the ground we're walking on, the plants around us, even the buildings that we're occupy. Doesn't it make sense that if that energy was directed at a certain body part, or even just your entire body, that you'd get a burst of energy and maybe help your immunity, or quicken your defenses?

Energy healing is absolutely real, it is just that some people are too closed minded to accept it, and allow it to happen. Find a professional and have a consult with them, it is real.

in addition to the clients will to live or recover from illness a belief in God/Goddess power to work through you is a must.
