I want to create a personal home page for professional purposes. This would cover what I do, my background, etc. I would like to know the best site in terms of service, reliability, probability of being crawled & indexed by search engines, and so on. What site/company would you recommend for this purpose?

Check these places for reviews (by users too)...

http://www.webhostingtoplist.com/
http://www.cheaphostingdirectory.com/
http://www.findmyhost.com/marketplace/budget_hosting.asp

I used routhost based on recommendations and ipowerweb and inmotion based on reviews from sites like those, and in all 3 cases have been happy.

BTW, I buy all my site names on GoDaddy. It's much less trouble if you change ISPs later on.

lunarpages.com and ipowerweb.com have an extremely nice basic package. They really good if you plan to have a lot of stuff on your website. But if you are looking into having little information about yourself, and a few pics etc, then you probably off with something like doteasy.com, which cost around $25.00 a year with 100MB hosting and free domain registeration. I hope this helps.

I know FreeWebs (www.freewebs.com)
Geocities (which you have already as a Yahoo member) (www.geocities.com)
and Google Pages (pages.google.com) (which requires a gmail invite, I think)
Check those out, see what you think
