Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

okay, i'll admit it. i didn't want a bible version either. just so you know, i'm not trying to push religion on you. it just seems that this is the most sensical (is that a word) way to me. i have searched high and low for the meaning of true love, and maybe this is where it's at.

hey by the way, read "The Princess Bride" by william goldman. it's AMAZING, and there's some pretty good true love in it.

LOVE THAT BOOK

Nietzsche's definition, which he deemed "the only one worthy of a philosopher", is:

"Love: in its means, war, and at bottom, the deadly hatred of the sexes."
[found in both Ecce Homo and The Case of Wagner.]

Crowley's definition is also nice:

"Love may best be defined as the passion of Hatred inflamed to the point of madness, when it takes refuge in Self-destruction."
[Little Essays toward Truth, Love.]

And mine? I think love, as in *affection*, is the sexual drive sublimated to the level of the heart. This is a shamanic definition. The sexual drive, however, I understand as a form of the will to power. The latter is Nietzschean.

Love is a very difficult thing to describe as there are different types of love. There is the love for your family, love for your friends, and love for your partner.... and all feel different somehow... a strong protective feeling towards someone you love... butterflies in the stomach when you think of that special person... So many different feelings for so many different people! You will know when it hits you xxx
