There are two things to consider.
Solar radiation is from the Sun. This includes ions and other particles put out from sunspots and during times when the sun is 'active' or 'busy'. Solar flares and prominences put them out. They can be dangerous if not shielded.
However, I must take exception to the answerer who said this was one possible reason for considering the moon landings faked. The ships do have shielding in them. Not very much, but enough. Don't forget, the bulk of fuel serves as shielding, unti it is used up. The most vunerable time for the astronauts was when they were nearly home. And if the sun should flare up while they were en route, they could simply rotate the ship so that the bulk of its mass was between them and the sun.
(Please refer to a recent answer of mine, within the last week, giving several proofs that the moon landings were not faked.)
The second thing to consider is Cosmic rays.
Now, with regard to Cosmic radiation, that is a slightly different matter. Cosmic rays are highly accelerated particles (mostly deuterons-- helium nuclei) from beyond the solar system. They have been accelerated by the magnetic field of the entire galaxy, and they have very high energies. They will penetrate the GROUND to a depth of several meters, and it is not possible to boost enough mass to shield against them entirely.
Prior to the development of manned space flight, there was a study done called Man High, in which a miltary medic was lifted in a capsule by helium filled weather baloons to an altitide of about twenty miles. That is so high above most of the atmosphere, it is effectively like being in space. The test had several purposes. One was to test equipment and systems that would later be incorporated into manned space capsules. The other was to test the health of the man and see how the cosmic rays affected him.
Although the cosmic rays are individually very energetic (penetrating), there are few enough of them that they do not pose any great health danger on short trips such as those we have undertaken. If someone was to be far beyond the orbit of the Earth for years-- say on a manned mission to Mars-- then cosmic ray injury would be a significant matter to be considered.
Numbers for a lethal dose of radiation can be found elsewhere on lline. There are many earthly sources of radiation that are deadly enough without having to go out in space for it.

There are several kinds of 'cosmic' radiation.
The sun ejects fast protons and elections which move so fast that they become what you think of as radiation. Most of the time this is fairly constant but sometimes the sun flares and ejects far more 'stuff' and the radiation dose increases by a factor of 100's. The background will not cause accute radiation sickness but will gradually increase the chance of getting cancer. I believe someone calculated that the apollo crews increased their cancer risk by a few %. Solar radiation dimishes the further from the sun you go and ceases at the heliopause which somewhere beyond the orbit if pluto.
The other types are the cosmic background radiation and cosmic rays. The cosmic background is totally safe and it like a very feeble microwave oven which causes a feeble background of radio waves.
Cosmic rays are vastly energetic radiation which will go through any shielding but luckily they have a low intensity.
So in sumary, within the solar system it is solar flares that cause the problem. If you try and travel between stars then the cosmic rays will eventually kill you because they are unstoppable unless you are in a spaceship with lead walls as thick as a house.

initially the earth had a water cover masking the completed planet. This gave the earth a hothouse result. subsequently there have been eye-catching flowers and flowers. A digital paradise. even as God led to the flooding of the universe it changed into this water cover that got here down and coated the earth. now not changed into the earth secure adversarial to the radiation by using the water cover. The radiation that had outfitted up outdoors the water cover changed into enable loose on earth. This wrought havoc on earth and mankind. quickly God will restoration the earth to the paradise he meant for it to be in the first position. Then he will fix the radiation issue. No resident will say they are ill. no extra discomfort or lack of existence. Rev 21:4.

if subjected to long periods outside the atmosphere of the earth, where there is no protection from the magnetic field. An example is the proposed human space mission to mars

Out in space we're told.
Isn't it our atmosphere that protects us from the worst of it? The space walkers are never allowed out when the sun is flaring up so I guess their suits only protect them from so much.
This was also one of the reasons why the moon landings were said to be fake. (Because the radiation would have killed them.) - who knows?
