As of now, like the men, they are there by choice. There are many top-notch women in the military, who are excellent at their jobs, and some are much better leaders than their male counterparts.
I also doubt that I would grieve more if I lost a daughter over a son. Or that my children would suffer more if they lost me over their dad. I think the grief and suffering would be horrible, but not more.
All that said, I believe that women should not do some jobs in the military. Or at least be able to perform to men's standards before being allowed to do a job. I was a MP for 8 years. I loved it. But the fact of the matter was that I could not physically keep up with 95% of the men in my unit. And I was one of the few women in my unit who could do even that. Some of the women in my unit were not even able to carry all their own gear.
My team consisted of three people, if I got hurt(actually most likely, because of my posistion) all would have been OK, either of my team mates could easily get me out, but if it had been one of them hurt, I would NOT have been able to move them far. I just did not have the strength. And one of the males on my team was smaller than I was. Being the "weak link" that my teammates depended on was not fun.
Mentally, I was as ready as they were, and I could shoot better than either of them, but physically I would never measure up. I think that simple fact of life should not be overlooked, and be taken a little more seriously by women and men alike.

Women should have the same rights as men. I was in the Army and thankful I never went but my sister in law is the for her second tour. the first she left 6 weeks after having her 2nd baby. My mother will leave in September and she will turn 47 in Iraq--and she is a grandmother of 6. She elected to go. This is their Job. This is what they chose to do. my mother and I have better records with are weapon then any of the men in my family in.

I see from my eyes is the women and men soldiers in Iraq is killing innocent childs and women's and old people.
Sorry, I'm honest to say that, and your American government not say this to you and to the public in world.
And please don't mad when the Iraqi kill the men or women soldier, because they kill the innocents.
Note: i really don't hate Americans, but i need to tell you the truth.
Good Luck.

I'm all for it. It's about damn time us selfish men started sharing the horror of war, wouldn't want you women to miss anything. Just think you now you can watch your friends die, parts of your body disappear, and as an extra bone us you get to have nightmares for the next 15-20 yrs. GO GIRLS GO

I admire them. May them all come safe home ...they're doing something that not everybody would have the guts to do, and my heart goes out to the families who lost those brave females.

We asked for equal rights. We have it. I was in the Army in the 60's when we were in Vietnam. The only females that were in Nam were the nurses that volunteered.
