Don't worry bout gettin a good car as your first. In fact, get a sh!tty one - I wish I had. I treated it badly, got some scrapes, and was really dejected that my shiny, near-new car had scrapes in it. Get some $1500 beater, drive it for a year, and then get what you really want after you've had some driving experience.
I'm a car guy as well and loved showing up when I was 17 in my '68 Mustang, but I have realized that it's not what you have, it's what you make of it.

How much money do you have saved up??? How much money do you make in a year???
You should buy a car you can afford with cash & insure that you have an income that can pay for insurance, repairs, fuel, maintenance and so on... I doubt if this is your first car you even have the fundage saved up to purchase it, let alone fix everything you will destroy on it!

Dollar for dollar you will do better with something other than a sports car. One of the best cars made is a Toyota. This is not a commercial.
