if you have patience then you will be ok, other than that, the traffic is bumper to bumper, horns honking, hot dry sun beaming on you and all you want is to move and feel some air, i suggest traveling at night when the traffic is moving better and not so many people are out

No it isn't. Also August is going to be unbearably hot. The city is extremely noisy and crowded. There is no public transport and you do need to know some Arabic if you want to get around. Be ware of the prices. 1 euro is just over 7 Egyptian pounds. You could hire a taxi for a whole day to take you around and you should not pay more than 50 Egyptian pounds or 7 euros or 9 dollars. Ive been going there twice a year for over a month for the past 8 years.

the traffic in cairo is heavy in this time and yes the heat makes things even worst especially in peak time comming out of this city. your best thing would be to take taxis they are cheap and they will also know short cuts to destinations. i would not recomend the train as this gets realy packed and youll end up standing most of your journey. the station are much closer to each other and the stops are a lot more frequent with people in n out constantly. and unless you are a very patient driver then hire a car. but if you are not then i would not even think about this. so just stick with the taxis. but youll love this country see all you can and enjoy every sec of your stay.

I was in Cairo some years ago, so things may have changed. It was very easy to get round. Heaps and heaps of cheap taxi's . Also a limited underground. We took some local share mini-buses too, but your really need someone local to tell you which one to take. Mostly walked though as it is a great way to discover the city, particularly the markets.
