mainstream rock punk and emo aren't that good in my opinion. they're just monikers hijacked from once-interesting music movements to sell major label music to the new generation.
the original versions of each, however, hold musical merit. my favorite at the moment is punk, which in a broad sense contains both rock and emo influences. from proto-punk rock bands like Pere Ubu, New York Dolls and Television to the mid 1970's ramones, sexpistols, clash, slits, stiff little fingers, crass etc. to DC hardcore punk & emocore (bad brains, minor threat, rites of spring, fugazi)... folk-punk like billy bragg, post-punk gang of four, joy division, maximum joy, pil, ESG... it is all so good!

ROCK!! but more like alternative rock because that is what Fall Out Boy is(yes, i love Fall Out Boy!)
