I was a suporter of the war based on information given at the start of the war. but after billions of our dollars and hundreds of troops I am questioning my own thinking at the start of the war. So this is what I have came up with: The billions of dollars we have invested in the war on terror I belived could have been more usefully spent on developing not only an alternate fuel source but also the an affordable coversion kit for automobiles currently on the road. This would stop two things first it would stop the rollercoaster of gas prices, afuel made in america for americans would not be subject to outside influences on price andit would not be as easy to manipulate the market as oil is today. This would help ease our pain at the pump. The spin off would be even better for America than the gas savings, oil is the life blood of terorism, with out it it dies. So here is the question, could an alt. fuel end a majority of terrorism? And no I am not a liberal, just a thinker....

What is so bad about being a Liberal? And, no, I do not think an alternative energy source would end terrorism. Fear and ignorance are the main cause of any type of terrorism, I think. Knowledge is the great equalizer. Check out MotherEarth for tons of alternative fuel sources that are already in use. Great point though!

One of the best questions I've come across. The only fly in the ointment here is gas prices will still be high because the big oil companies will buy all the alternative fuel co. The only difference would be the Arabs wont be getting our money.

yes i agree and had the almost two trillion spent on the war been alocated to such a peacefull venture it would of reduced our apperance to the world that we only want to control every-other country.
had we invested the hundreds of billions we spend each year to more peace-full pursuits we would need a small but effective defense program because surely no one is planning an armed invasion of america.
A slow deiliberate take over by mexico is more likely given the millions who walk across every-year and if no jobs were here certianly would return .
WE have plenty of cheap work always available in america because we take so much of the real work and waste on war and a huge defense budget .
RUSSIA realized they had no chance in the arms race and who invaded them when the soviets retired 75% of its military .
A small coningent of well equiped airmen and navy can adequitly protect our shores .
IF we had invested the money in good will around the world we would have need of a very small army .
WE no longer need a large standing army but a navy and air defense system to defend against who .WAR is coming to an end as people realize what a waste it all is in human lives and resources .

The war on terror must be fought and won, or the development of alternative fuels probably won't even matter. This is a fight of good versus evil and is for our very survival.

Alternative fuel is a great idea, and one we should invest in, but I doubt that it will have much effect on terrorism. The radical Wahabbist sect of Islam tells its followers to kill or convert the infidels, and until this group joins the rest of us in the 21st century (or we wipe them out), we're going to have this problem for a while.

if you're saying in iraq... since that has nothing to do with terror... I agree completely... or even if we spent the money to actually FOCUS ON TERROR IN THE WAR ON TERROR!!!... that's a novel idea!

but anyway... it's great that Iraqis are free, but I think that we had more serious issues at hand... like terror...

Just because america stopped using the oil from the middle east doesn't mean that all the other countries on the globe would, therefore they would still have income from oil
