We don't have any real plants in the house and it seems like these gnats just came from out of nowhere last week. Theyre mostly concetrated in the laundry room, which is by the backdoor, but they're all over the house. Could there be an underlying problem, like mold, attracting these gnats? How can I get rid of them?

Simply place a small dish of apple cider vinegar in the room they are in....they are attracted to it and will drown!

You might have food in the laundry room that no one has found yet. They sound like the gnats that are attracted to something rotting. Are your garbage cans right beside the backdoor? That might be the source. If that isn't it try, as much of a pain this might be, to clean the laundy room. Take everything out and clean the floor and walls really well.

Many things can attract gnats and sometimes nothing. They seem to be a real problem this year. One thing that really helps is to light a candle (scented or unscented). Especially in the dark, it will draw them and get rid of the problem for you. This is the most inexpensive way and is less dangerous than spraying bug spray. Try it, it really works!!

they are attracted to unused drains - extra bathrooms where the tub doesn't get used - that kind of thing. They're in your laundry room so you might have a drainage problem.

Sometimes they come into the house in fruit - especially if it is BIO or organic. Have you brought any fruit home recently?
