We all have Drivers Licenses, so just add the national ID feature to the Drivers license...what's the big deal?
Everyone is supposed to carry and ID when they're in public anayway, so I have no problem with this idea.

It's possibly the start of something bad. Why should a citizen have to identify themselves except for need ( get a loan, passport, age of majority to buy booze, etc.)
Once you have a Nat. Identity Card, then the only use for it is to identify yourself to the authorities and on demand. That is the only reason for one of these things. To keep tabs on you,for whatever reason. This is what happens on totalitarian run countries such as fascist, communist and pretend democracies (Zimbabwe comes to mind). Ever read Orwell's 1984> Coming closer all the time.

People object that it violates the Constitution, but isn't it already gone? In North Korea if you can't produce your ID the police can shoot you on the spot. In Cuba, they just drag you off to prison where you don't need to be charged with anything, they can torture you, they can keep you as long as they want. Just like here. Now. So whats one more step? We've been perfectly OK with building a tyrannical super state here so far, why not continue? After all...it keeps us "safe". Please note use of irony.

It is a horrible idea. This is the start of the end. The IRS will eat that up.

I think we need a Washington Tea Party!
