The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* Starting and Running a Non-Profit Made Easy by Entrepreneur Press, David H. Bangs
* Starting and Running a Nonprofit Organization by Joan M. Hummel
* The Nonprofit Handbook: Everything You Need to Know to Start and Run Your Nonprofit Organization by Gary M. Grobman
* Starting & Building A Nonprofit: A Practical Guide by Peri Pakroo

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

Homeless shelter can be established as a non-profit organization through the City, County, or State government. If you're really serious, get with one of the government offices and enquire about the requirements and possible building they can grant you. As non-profit, you can have business donate to your cause for tax deduction on their part.

In all honesty, though, without any experience or education, I suggest you first work for an existing homeless shelters to see what's all involved on a daily basis. This experience will do you a world of good. Best of luck on your noble cause.

Check with SBA in your area. They should be able to guide you.

Also, have you consider a home based business that could be your funding for your ultimate goal of a homeless shelter? We do fundraisers with our all natural candles. My team and I will give you phenomenal training and daily support in retail, fundraising and building a team.

There are many of us that are working full time jobs while in the process of reaching our goals, whatever they may be.

Place an order (complete, under $50) through our Candle of the Month and you will get product to sell (100% profit), web site, wholesale, training. You can create income from day one of receiving your products.

You sound like a go getter and this could be an avenue for you to have the resources to produce your shelter a few years down the road.

To Your Success!!

Compared to offline businesses, the investment required to start an online business is minimal. A popular way of earning money on the internet is by providing information and services. This can be monetised by advertising or charging a subscription. You can also make money online by selling products on auction websites like eBay or through your own website.
