A "dark" match is the crowd warm up match before televised show goes on air live. It's intended to get the live crowd ready and into it. It's like the opening act of a concert. It's used to get new tallent ready and to prepare them for performing in front of a live audience. It is also used to help injured stars recoup. It is also used to judge how an audience will react to stars or situations. But, it's mainly used to get the audience primed and ready

A match that wasn't shown during a live taping of wrestling. Usually with rookies who might finished with OVW and go onto the WWE. There were alot of dark matches that should of been on tv but they had to get rid of others. My friend wrestled for a dark match at an indy wrestle fed.

a dark match is a match before or after the TV show or the show taping. I went to a Smackdown taping which means i saw the show on tuesday.. well after the show i got to see a dark match it was the Undertaker vs. JBL in a casket match.

a dark match is a match that wrestlers fight at but does not airs on tv and people dont know about the matches unless they are there watching the matches or hear about it if someone tells them who been there watching the matches
