widescreen (or what used to be called letterbox) shows you more of the picture. You think you're getting a bigger picture with full screen but what it actually is doing is taking a cropped image from the film and expanding it. Widescreen is the whole picture stretched but you see much more.

Example. If you watched Lawrence of Arabia in widescreen it takes away the magnitude of the scenery. It only shows you the center action and not whats around it. Widescreen shows you everything and maybe things you wouldnt have seen before.

Widescreen, because you do see the full frame as it was meant to be. I noticed a lot of that in the movie Patton with George C Scott. There was a scene when the US forces were facing the Germans in Africa and you could Patton standing there with his binoculars. In the full screen all you see was George C Scott but not what was behind him. In the widescreen, you actually saw the artillery behind him to his left or to the viewers right. It made the scene much better and made more sense to see the artillery.

Whenever I buy DVD's, I always get widescreen. For one, I like the theatrical look of it, especially when you can see things you won't be able to see in fullscreen fomat. Another reason is, movies on TV are in fullscreen, all the time. Seeing a movie air in widescreen is rare, so I like taking advantage of that.

Full screen because I could care less whats going on three feet on either side of what Im looking at. Plust wide screen has those two annoying black lines and the top and bottom and makes it look like its squished. Hope this helps.
