Is George W. Bush a smart man? Is George W. Bush a good president? Is George W. Bush a good leader?

I will answer all these questions individually and illuminate some of his shortcomings and problems in the process.

Is he a smart man?
He was smart enought to surround himself with some of the most intelligent men in politics (Dick Cheney and Karl Rove). His people were smart enough to get him elected, even if it was through manipulation and "trickery." That goes to show their obvious comfort and good implementation of realpolitik on a domestic level. He is not however a very good public speaker and does not improvise well...this makes him look like an idiot. His public faux paus, most recently with the blind reporter, make him look like a monkey...and the media is not kind to him in this regard, whereas they were very kind to Bill Clinton, who was a very good speaker and a Machiavellian character and able user of realpolitik. Bill Clinton was impeached by the House of Representatives and people still believe he was an honest man.

Is George Bush A good president?
No, I don't think he is. He billed himself as a conservative yet he has increased domestic spending on social services, toyed with the idea of an amnesty like plan for illegal immigrants (even though 70% of American citizens oppose this). He has marched the United States into a quicksand like trap in the Iraq. In regards to a previous poster...yes, maybe Becktell, and other corporations are profiting quite well from this war but how is that different from say the Marshall Plan (where the US loaned 17 Billion dollars to Europe to rebuild after World War Two but only if US corporations and the US government were the rebuilders)?
Did he set a precedent for invasion of nations we just don't like? NO, we have been doing that since the 1950s? Ever here of the Korean War, Vietnam, Nicaragua, Cuba, Iran, Lebanon, Cambodia....the list is very long. George W. Bush is not the first president to have an interventionist foreign policy and fail at it. Look to John F. Kennedy (Bay of Pigs), Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon (Vietnam), Bill Clinton (Yugoslavia and Somalia...I hear the warlords are still running the show in Somalia and Yugoslavia had some Kosovo issues a few years back)

Besides, the current immigration problems go back 25 years to a plan developed by MAssachusetts' Ted Kennedy and endorsed by President Reagan. Why was immigration from Mexico not a problem in the 1950s but is now? I don't think it's George Bush's fault.

Is he a good leader?
No. Current polls show that he is extremely unpopular, even within his own political party. Although, a good leader sometimes has to make decisions that are unpopular, George W. Bush makes bad decisions about popular and unpopular issues.

So, yes, George Bush has a bunch of problems, and he doesn't have the time to fix or address any of them. Unless in the next 20 years or so, the things he did in his presidency turn out to be actually good things...his presidence will probably be considered one of the worst in American History.

And for the record, I am a registered Republican and I dislike George W. Bush's actions as president. He has been extremely dissapointing despite all of the braniacs he surrounds himself with.

farewell.

I think that the best answer to this question came directly from what Bill Clinton said during his first campaign. "What ever one President does is not evident until 6 to 8 years after he is elected" Saying that, every President suffers or benefits from what the previous administration has done, so all those that are bashing Bush for 9/11 should heed well the words of their HERO and you can not really judge Bush's full impact until the next President is in office. If things are great with the next President, Bush was good, if things Suck then so did Bush. Those that are complaining about the cost of gasoline are unaware that Al Gore sold off a large portion of our petroleum reserves to Occidental Petroleum, below market value, not to say that anything was fishy (LOL) but Al Gore Sr. worked for Occidental, damn I keep forgetting this war is ABOUT OIL What Military, Clinton destroyed the military, how many bases were closed under the Clinton administration. How many of the terrorists that attacked US interests (USS Cole, embassies attacks on clubs where Marines were known to be) that Bill Clinton PROMISED would be hunted down and punished were ever hunted down or punished. ZIP that's how many No liberal wants to hear that in 1995 the CIA found evidence that terrorists had planned to use aircraft to destroy the CIA building, and in 1996 the CIA found evidence that the terrorists had planned to destroy skyscrapers in NY, all they hear is Bush received intelligence reports 2 weeks before they executed their plan and gets the blame for not doing anything. Bush gets 2 weeks, Bill gets 4 years and does nothing.

I think Desert Queen has been out in the desert sun for too long. Maybe smoking too much camel dung. Her brain is addled.
President Bush does not have internal problems. His external problems are the left-wing main stream media; left-wing kooks (Kerry, Kennedy, Murtha) in government; left-wing kooks (Michael Moorer, Cindy Sheehan) out of government, and plain old kooks like Desert Queen.
I think he is a good man, doing a good job. The US military did not destroy Afghanistan. The military help Afghan destroy the Taliban and Al-queda, gave the country back to the Afghan people and are now protecting their new government. All that is good.
President Bush led a coalition of the willing to free the Iraqi people and return the country to the people. In Iraq, there are crazy muslims killing other muslims, from their own country, for no good reason. Blame that on bad teachings from Imams and 35 years of bad government in Iraq before the US got there.
President Bush is doing everything he can to protect the citizens of the US from harm. I don't know what he can do better.
People like Desert Queen: get your head out of the sand, go to the nearest oasis, drink some water, then pay attention.

Someone else alluded to the fact the media is slanted against him...when I finished laughing hysterically I started this answer. Never in modern US history has the media been more slanted TOWARDS a president than this one. There have been few questions in mainstream media about the lies that got us into the war in Iraq. Where are the "weapons of mass destruction" and where are the ties to terrorism aka 9/11 that exist in Iraq? The answer is there aren''t any, there never were any. This is all about money, money for oil comapnies, money for companies that drill/rebuild oil fields (Halliburton/Dick Cheney) and money for the corporations that thrive in a war time economy....defense and weapons manufacturers. This country was ready to roast Clinton for an extramarital affair..meanwhile Bush who has lied so many times we've lost count and is responsible for the loss of thousands of lives is nowhere near being held accountable. A majority of Americans need to pull their heads out of their asses and open their eyes....this guy needs to be impeached.

His problem is he's a money hungry, war mongering republican. The only way he could improve is to resign the presidency and go back to Texas and ride quietly into the sunset and not look back. He is definately not misunderstood, everyone knows what he's all about, and the only way the media could be unfair to him is if they write something good about him.

Bush is just not smart enough for the job. It is impossible for him to improve, he just does not have the genetics. I don't think he is a good man, he is immoral because he has killed thousands. The press is being unfair to him and the US by ignoring his incompetence.

I could start about President Bush's problems, but I'm afraid I'd run out of room before coming anywhere close to finishing.

He's perfect, according to him and all others on his payroll. Everything he screws up is really Bill Clinton's fault, even though he's been gone for years. I'm sure lil' W will someday try to tie Clinton to the "Pretzel Choking" incident.
