and I admit - it does come from ignorance. But I believe alot of us are ignorant of this subject. North Korea. Why is it - back years ago we KNEW what Hitler was doing all the time and what was going on in Germany and the dictator of North Korea has kept their people under wraps completely? We have SO much technology now (compared to then). How SMART is this dictator? How MANY weapons does he have that he can afford to test and still have some left? Why would he aim at California? Why don't we, as a nation, know enough about him or the country? We don't know and that is sparking fear in people (I'm in Florida so I'm not writing because I'm afraid he is going to bomb California or West Coast - although I would be EXTREMELY upset if that happened - don't get me wrong please). Why don't we know enough? If you are knowledgeable about him or his country, please share your thoughts. Again, I apologize for my ignorance on this subject.

3rd answer fine BUT we still know a lot more about other countries ---- has nothing to do with the CIA or spys. We are aware of their capabilities in other locations, etc., etc. North Korea is the only place WE NO NOTHING ABOUT. We knew, without the technology we have now about HITLER.

We know quite a bit about North Korea. After all we have had Military troops on their southern border since 1950. When you have a communist regime with a dictator its not hard to keep people in the dark. The televisions (those who have them), newsprint is all controlled so its pretty easy keep them in the dark and keep them thinking the way you want them to. You can be pretty confident that testing military missiles is the last thing on the general populations mind. We can only see so much with our technology. I can feel confident that we know so much more than we are telling. It's in the interest of OUR national security to not show him what we know. We know the NY Times would sell us up the river in a minute if given the chance. If there would have been ANY real danger to the United States there would have warnings. This is Sabre rattling to get attention and hopefully scam more money supposedly for food (when it is really going to their military) and the press having a hey day.

If the CIA told the public what it knows, it would also be telling the North Koreans (or whoever is the subject of their investigations), and giving them major clues as to how they found out; who is working with them. That's why it is undercover work; because some information is very dangerous. I've been reading spy novels for years, including ones written by people who have first worked as spies in the "real" world, and they invariably need to keep what they learn and how they learned it very, very secret. Typically only the President, perhaps one or two of his closest advisers, the director of the CIA, and the agents involved will know about a spying operation. Surely you can see the logic of that.

We are uncertain as to how up-to-date their nuclear capability is.

Hiter's nuclear program was questionalbe at best.
