Ya know to each their own. I sure as heck wouldn't do it, and yes there is a fair chance she won't live to see him graduate high school.

But what guarantees do any of us have that we will stay healthy enough to be energetic parents or that fate won't take our lives before our kids are grown.

Anyhow, it is not my life to judge and Lord knows, that sure beats a 12 year old having a baby!

Tough one to answer! This lady is a doctor, so she must have a good deal of knowledge and experience to consider going through with the birth. She apparently already has kids, so I'd think it was a family decision to go ahead with it. Seems to me that this just brings up a lot of questions about our attitudes to life and age issues, I mean, who's to say that each one of us is going to live for the 'four score and twenty' maybe that's something that we are all blissfully unaware of when we're young. I don't think there's anything wrong with having a child at this age, if the baby is loved and wanted, then what's the problem? Maybe we should be a bit more concerned about the numbers of unwanted pregnancies in our younger generations that do not have the financial means or benefit of a family support mechanism.

the problem is not people thinking shes his granny its her getting old and not being able to look after him. it's so selfish having a child at that age how long will she be around for that child? til hes 10 ,11? why cant people just be happy with what they have got there is a reason women go through menopause and it's because when you get older you cant care for a child the same as a young women can.

further to one of the people who asked how this is possible as she has been through the menopause she had ivf

the other thing about this is surely this woman should be aware of the impact having such an old mother could have on the child

she is a child phycologist

I did see that in the news. I think its kinda sad.... seriously, what are the odds of that parent raising her child until the baby reaches 18? Slim. She will never see her grandkids... and more than likely that child will be taking care of the parents instead of the other way around.

It is actually normal in some cultures...however, this is not too healthy. Just think... on his 20th birthday...his mom is going to be rocking in an old granny chair at the age of 83. That is just plain messed up.

Yes, I agree it's not entirely right but for different reasons. The chapel of rest is no place for a teenager especially when it's their mum that they are going to visit in there :(

All that matters is that she wanted a child, how do you know this wasn't her first baby? What if she has been trying for a very long time? Everyone wants someone to give their love and adoration to.
