I think the best sales person doesn't have to do much selling as the customer knows what he wants and can afford. Just be attentive, answer their questions, don't hover around them. When I bought a car, the car sold me. The sales person said 'take it home for the weekend' to try it out.

Be very, very persuasive and persistent. Never take no for an answer. Have answers to questions. Or else, get back to them as soon as you can. You have to kiss a lot of asses, join clubs, have a wide variety of interests, be well-read. Selling is the art of making the customer feel they need the item and is willing to buy.
Most of all YOU MUST HAVE THE DRIVE.

you just have to work your behind off and be very persuasive. work on your approach to the people you may be selling stuff too. If you are a person who goes door by door to sell then it might be a bit different because you won't know your customer making it a bit harder but if you make it sound very good of a product then they will buy it.
