me almost 2 days. once you stay awake for a certain period you can stay awake longer............

It depends on the person, and the methods used to stay awake:
I. One man did it for over 11 days without side effects
In 1965 "Gardner managed to keep awake 264 hours and 12 minutes, just over 11 days. His 1965 wakefulness record debunked the theory that sleep deprivation would lead to madness; Gardner showed no signs of it. After finally going to bed, he awoke less than 15 hours later, feeling fine."
II. The National Sleep Foundation states that:
"Being awake for 18 hours is equal to a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08%, which is legally drunk and leaves you at equal risk for a crash"
II. There are 3 types of Insomnia:
Transient
Acute
Chronic
The answer is a long time, longest recorded was just over 11 days, and that's documented. In conclusion some people can stay awake for a very longer period of time, than others. And in addition if you must be alert and coherent, well that's a whole different subject matter and dependent on individual stamina.

I've been awake for 50 hours at a time in the past, but must be doing something physical the whole time in order to stay awake.

I stay awake for about 30-36 hours straight before I start to nod off without noticing it. That can go on for about another 24 hours, then I'm incoherent.

i stayed up for a little more than 36 hours when i travelled from delhi to bangkok.
before an exam ,maybe 28.but then i felt so sleepy during the exam i could hardly read what i was writing.
ps:did u really stay awake for 30 hours before an EXAM??????????well ,how did the it go ????

if usually depends on what i am doing to stay awake. i mean, if i am watching tv or yours, studying, i can't stay up very long, though when doing something with friends awhile longer.
