If you have another Texas city you want to list and explain, feel free to.

My picks:
-Best: Austin. Great nightlife, Sixth Street and SoCo are funky and eclectic, people are friendly, beautiful and extensive park system
-Worst: Hmmm...probably Dallas. I don't hate it, but it just isn't my cup of tea. Traffic is horrible, and some drivers are quite mean. I also don't think it has as much to offer in arts and culture than other cities (please, no offense to Dallasonians, this is just my personal experience.)

Texas rocks!

Dallas: Best
Austin: Mid
Houston: Worst

Dallas has quickly become a worldwide attraction for it's extensive nightlife and powerful biz atmosphere (Don't believe that? Look at DFW airport, the world's second largest... mean to be a corp hub...)
It also keeps plano in it's metroplex, named one of america's top 5 places to live. The diversity in Dallas is amazing for companies and money; and the nightlife is bad@$$...

Austin's gotten stagnant over the last few years namely for being much to spread out. There isn't much to do there (after you've lived there a few years and gotten bored with the scene), and biz deals generally want to avoid austin for it's lack of resources. However, due to good historical appeal, Austin makes an excellent source of tourism revenue.

Houston is considered by many to be the armpit of Texas. The traffic is the worst of any city for 200 miles, the crime rate rivals that of N.O (pre-Kat), and the age and lack of well spent money gives the city a busted-@ss look to it. It's just a cheap place that we should give up on and rebuild (lol). Biz-speaking, Houston's not doing bad. It's got a ways to go before it's viewed as a hub of any sort (Enron put a bad taste in everyone's mouth...) and aside from off-shore sites, there isnt much to be done in H-town.

Just a bit of logic for ya;)
I'm gunna have to be leavin Austin for D-Town soon enough. Austin's just not much to offer...
but even Houston rox any other city in the nation, Texas pwnz!!!

All these cities have great things to offer and then undesirable areas.

I guess it all depends on what you're looking for. Myself I prefer to live in a smaller town, but with close access to a larger city.

San Marcus.
Denton.

Denton is great because you don't have to deal with the Dallas traffic everyday - but are close enough to both Dallas & Fort Worth for various shopping, entertainment, and culteral events.

San Marcus is much the same with close access to Austin and San Antonio.

I haven't really been to many places in Texas, (I live in Missouri), but I love San Antonio. The river-walk with all of the little clubs and shops is great. It's so pretty at night.

houston is the worst...in general, we don't know how to drive.

San Marcos, best! - Close to Austin, San Antonio, and Waco. Lots of great shopping. 2 Rivers (TuBiNg BaBy!).. and TEXAS STATE!
