Depends on what you mean by "crashed". Since you said OLD hard drive I'm assuming she has replaced the crashed drive....

Has she tried to connect the crashed drive as a SLAVE to the NEW hard drive computer? Sometimes, although the drive may not boot up, the files, or, at least SOME of the files can be accessed.

YES IF IT WILL RUN. USE A USB2.O TO IDE ADAPTER THEN DRAG & DROP THE FILES TO YOUR NEW COMPUTER. IF YOU USE THE ADAPTER YOUR NEW COMPUTER WILL SEE THEM BETTER EVEN IF THE OLD HARD DRIVE IS RUNNING SLOWER. GEEKS.COM HAS THE ADAPTER .
