Yes, I try to avoid the news as much as possible, while still trying to keep up on world events. It's tough! The media want to glorify all bad news to keep their ratings up. It's all about money.

The news is on TV to sell advertising. They need to be interesting enough to keep you watching through the commercials. So the purpose is not information, but entertainment.
The amount of time devoted to a tragedy is directly propositional to the amount of "dramatic video footage" they have to show you. Mudslide kills 3000, but no video? Might get 20 seconds. Then they will spend 20 minutes on Michael Jackson holding a baby off a balcony. Why?
They're not covering stories with any sense of priority in regards to human life. Celebrity gossip is never more important than the death of people, but it will usually get more airtime. Why? Because they aren't their to inform you about your world. Their real goal is to entertain you.

The news is trying to tell you about the world, but right now the world is a pit of despair. Americans tend to find it depressing because we live in a bubble, cut off from the rue horrors of the world. Just ignore the news, read the newspaper.

A lot of experts actually say to not watch the news so much! And anyway, we all know that they only air bad stuff on the news so the world isn't as half as bad as the news makes it out to be!

Yes, but what depresses me more than the news is the illiteracy that you have proudly displayed for the entire Yahoo world to see! Are you not embarrassed, especially when you consider that Yahoo has a spell check?!

No, it just amazes me how people in the media business have no life at all because half the events that they report are so blown up they make it sound as if you're going to die tomorrow or something tragic is really going to happen...like west nile virus, bird flu, discovery's lift off, and etc...this list can go on...

No; the news does not make me feel bad, because I've travelled the world, and know for a fact that there is a LOT of good in it that goes unreported.

Your communication skills make me feel worse about the world. You need to work on spelling, grammar, and punctuation. I believe the lack of skills to communicate and understand important information from inflammatory information may contribute to the issue. Due to a lack of education and self-awareness many members of our society make poor choices and work against solutions.
