If you are taking birth control pills and have been taking them for less than a year, you have about a 1 in 10 chance of getting pregnant. If you have been taking them longer, the risk drops. You can also increase the effectiveness of birth control pills by eliminating the 3 most common causes of failure: skipping pills, taking pills at vastly different times on different days, and the use of antibiotics while taking the Pill.
If the Pill is effective, you don't *have* a period. The vaginal bleeding you experience while on the Pill is withdrawal bleeding--something totally different. So there is no way to know *when* you would be most fertile. Timing sex based on the pseudo-cycles that are caused by hormonal birth control will not help you *at all*.
When you're not using hormonal birth control, sex 5 days before your period is *always* safe. However, until you get your period, there is no way to be sure when it is 5 days away. You can only use this in retrospect. And *many* women are fertile 5 days after their period, so that won't help much, either.
For more details on how your body works (again--this is really not applicable to you in your situation *now*), please read _Taking Charge of Your Fertility_ by Toni Weschler.

There is always a chance of pregnancy when you have sex whether or not you are on birth control. Birth control pills are supposed to keep you from getting pregnant but they are only 98% effective and must be taken every day at the same exact time. If your cycle (period) is regular than you ovulate about 14 days after the start of your period so you should be pretty safe but there is always a risk of getting pregnant. If you don't want to get pregnant than make sure to use condoms.

The chances are very low that you could get pregnant if you're taking the pill correctly. However, no birth control method (outside of abstinence) is absolutely 100% effective.
You should be using condoms for safety, which will help lower your chances of pregnancy as well.

As long as this isn't your first month of taking the pill and as long as you take it daily as instructed, then you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Now if this is your first month of taking the pill and or you have missed some pills, then you have something to worry about. Otherwise don't worry that's what birth control is for, so you don't end up pregnant. Talk with your gyno, they can be more helpful and offer more information to put your mind at ease and to educate you.

birth control is pretty effective unless you miss a day it can screw it all up and you have to take it for 30 straight days for it to be effective. on the contrary to what common sense said your chances of getting pregnant after your period are more likely than before your period. You ovulate about 7 days after the end of your period or 14 days after the beginning of your period and 14 days before your next one if you have a 28 day cycle. (cycle is from the first day of your period to the first day of your next one) The sperm can wait up to 5 days for the egg but the egg is only fertile for 2 days. so the week before your period is the safest time and the week after is risky.

What do you think birth control is for?? If you are on birth control and taking/using it correctly, then there is a VERY minimal chance that you can get pregnant (probability depends on the type of birth control you use).......it doesnt really matter when you have sex if you are on birth control....but you should have your partner wear a condom anyway, to save you from getting an STD!!!

um whoever told you to have sex 5 days before or after period is wrong!! usually women ovulate 10 -17 days after the first day of their period. if you are that scared of getting prego then quit having sex. use 2 methods condoms and pill or spermicide and pill .

If your kind of birth comtrol works with you body, then you shouldn't. I know a girl that got pregnant while on the pill, and her and another girl got pregnant while on the shot. Not everthing works for everybody.
