Robert Pershing Wadlow was born in Alton in 1918, a normal-size baby, but soon his perky pituitary gland triggered abnormal growth. At the age of 13, already 7 ft. 4 in., he was proclaimed the world's biggest Boy Scout. And he kept getting bigger.... he eventually topped out at 8 ft. 11.1 inches.

As of May 6, 2004, Leonid Stadnik, and since he lives in a small village in Ukraine, it has been hard to get exact measurements.
Mr. Stanyk has a syndrome called acromegalic gigantism, and he continues to grow. People with this syndrome can die young, because of heart or lung stress due to the larger than expected load put on the organs.
Stanyk has a tumor on his pituitary gland, and the gland keeps sending out growth hormone. Much of the tumor was removed when he was a boy (he was 33 years old in 2004) but doctors were unable to get the entire tumor because they might have compromised his brain. Now, as the tumour grows, it destroys cells in his pituitary gland. (second site has another picture, next to his mother, so you can see comparison.)
The second tallest man is Hussain Bisad. Hi is 7ft 9ins tall iand lives in Neasden, England. He fled to North London to escape war-torn Somalia. The 27-year-old with size 26 feet is still growing.
Hussain Bisad eats 4 main meals a day plus snacks and sleeps in a 9ft bed. His twin sister Khardra is 5ft 5ins.
Just for the heck of it- the tallest living woman (as of 1999) was Sandy Allen at 7' 7". She too had a pituitary tumor, and was very unhappy. She was 7'1" at 16 and wrote to the Guiness Book of World Records; "I would like to get to know someone that is approximately my height. It is needless to say my social life is practically nil and perhaps the publicity from your book may brighten my life."
The site from AOL is a picture of Sandy Hall with the "world's smallest man."
De-Fen Yao from China who supposedly stands at 7' 8 1/2" (her height has not been verified. I listed a site below about her life (with a picture)- she is very unhappy-works in a circus and has been forced to work even when ill.
I hope you find all this interesting. I know I did. It seems very hard for all of these people to be so different. That was the saddest thing as I read more, and it's why I gave u so much info. Just amazing stuff.
