The only black people I've come across who talk that way are usually ignorant, ghetto, or both. It's a shame that people born and raised in the U.S. can't even speak properly.

I've heard that it all goes back to the slaves brought over from Africa. The syntax of the slaves' native languages and the speech you hear today are supposed to be very similar.

I guess that makes me a "sell-out", huh? NOT!

PS...how many black people do you actually know in real life?

If they are speaking TO you (which I doubt), then you should ask them, since you are obviously pretty concerned. However, I am willing to bet that you are making an ignorant generalization based on the portrayal of a small percentage of the "black americans" that are on TV. I would guess that people who speak without helping verbs sound less intelligient than they probably are, which I have only found to be an advantage in social, casual situations.

You know every culture has a different way of speaking...and when you say "many"...statiscally, you're saying that you talked to all of the "african americans" in the U.S and spoke with them and concluded that "many" of us do not use helping verbs...And why is this of your concern...will this help you sleep at night? Do you plan to hold a seminar on getting us to use helping verbs in our sentences because it's not to your like....and for your 411, we can all speak as well as the average american when put in the situation of a need basis...so please keep your arrogant questions to that feeble mind of yours.
