SURE. then they can be given to a loving FOSTER CARE HOME. anything that leaves a mark on a child is abuse by todays standards. one tap to the clothed bottom would not be considered abuse though. if you have an anger problem... or if you were abused as a child and find yourself discipling your children the same way GET HELP QUICK. my ex-husband beat one of our children (the child was out of hand). the child DID need a punishment... but a beating, NO. in the protective service report dad said "i have only beaten him on 4 or 5 occassions and i've never left a mark before. he just made me so mad and i didn't even realize that i had removed my belt and was chasing him through the house. i think i hit him 3 times across the back when i caught him." needless to say, i have full custody of that child... dad had about 6 months of supervised visitation while he took classes required by protective service. the saddest thing to see in the protective service report was my 13 year old son's statement, "i slept behind my bedroom door all night. i was afraid my dad would come back and do something crazy." NO CHILD SHOULD HAVE TO LIVE IN FEAR.

What do you mean by beat? Technically you can do many things. Morally and/or legally should you? That is another question. No. You should not beat children with only rare and nearly impossible exceptions. If your child puts a knife to your throat, then defend yourself with appropriate force. If your child requires discipline, then use appropriate technique and NOT beating.

No to beating, but yes to spanking definitely.

It works. It worked on my parents and on me and my sisters. My dad says that is what is wrong with children today because they can get away with anything without punishment.

This question reminds me of Desperate Housewives. Lynette told her kids she would spank them and never did, so they kept being bad. When Bree spanked them, they started to behave.

Sure, if you want your kids taken from you.

What is your definition of "beat". If you mean hitting on the bottom that doesn't leave a mark, that's okay, but hitting to the extent of leaving a mark is considered abuse.

hum that would be abuse!
Unless you are talking about spanking, i think thats ok, as long its not an everyday occurence!
If you are being hit more than honesly once a month, then i would talk to an adult!
