I have a 1.5 Peugeot 106 Diesel. Its got a 118000 on the clock and has had a fair amount of repairs, including new clutch, new alternator, new drivebelt, new battery and new brakes back and front.
Recently its start to drive as if a learner is behind the wheel (No its not my driving!). It decides to accelerate on its own as if you have a crap driver who has no clutch control and is very jerky. It feels like you have under average acceleration and then it suddenly gains a lot of power even though my foot has not moved on the accelerator. What could be the problem?
Does it just need a service or is it something more serious? I know it needs new glow plugs but that shouldnt be causing this problem. Im getting a full service done on Tuesday but I just wondered if anyone had any ideas why Im getting these sudden bursts of unwanted acceleration?

It sounds like some sort of fuel problem, a good starting point would be to check to see te air intake isnt clogged though, I had a similar problem on a brandnew transit diesel turned out a mechanic had left a rag in the engine bay and from time to time it got sucked in to the nozzle of the air intake.

First though check the accelarator cable as it may be clogged by the injector pump. More than likely on a peugeot diesel there is also a ram fitted onto the cable bracket on the pump, If this fails then the accellerator will be very hard.
But agree with other ppl, it sounds like a fuel problem, have you changed the filter lately

Do you have any white smoke at all. If so could be air in system. If not, fuel filter is always a good starting point. Check throttle lever travel on the fuel pump when you have foot flat out(with engine off!!) Unfortunately it is possible to have air in system without the smoke. There should be clear plastic fuel pipes on this vehicle so check by fuel filter when engine running, very small bubbles will not really affect engine, larger ones are a no no. Good luck.

I learned to drive in one of those 10 years ago. Haven't Peugeot diesels always had an acceleration problem? It sounds like it's getting on a bit, but do you always keep plenty of petrol in the tank? Mine used to do that when I let it run down to nearly empty.

Put a jump lead between the earth terminal of the battery and the engine block with the terminal still connected and see if you have lost the engine earth? If the electrics now work, then replace the main earth wire.Hope this helps
