If you actually look through the various views and research and draw a composite, you'd probably come out with a mix of biology and environment -- people are born with certain temperaments and perhaps some predisposition to such behavior, and then social structures (friends, family, general society) act on the individual... and her reaction can take her down this road.

Although some others here try to simplify it to one or the other, that's a little naive (I think) -- especially because nothing in life (sexual preference included) is ever due to a single source.

Usually those who promote a single source are being driven by some sort of political/religious stance for/against the behavior.

We're not even sure if lesbianism and homosexuality come from the same biological and social sources (let alone that every instance of either comes from the same source -- there could be multiple roads to the same sexual preference behavior). Men and women have some fundamental differences in how they are wired and how they interact with each other.

The most general case I can make is that identical twin studies of male homosexuals show some genetic connection... but since it's only about 50% (i.e., when the twin of a gay brother identifies as gay himself), the other 50% must be attributable to some sort of environmental influence. If lesbianism is similar, thus, there must be multiple sources as well.

If lesbianism is not purely genetic, then what might trigger it? In my experience, a preponderance of lesbians have had abusive or non-existent relationships (emotional at the minimum, sometimes physical) with male authority figures... and the sort of behavior I've seen in how they interact in significant relationships is similar to what I've seen in hetero people who I know have been abused.

I wish both sides would simply be a little more honest about how "gray" the sources of sexual preference actually are. We don't know... and half of the time we want to know it's only to justify a political stance. Mostly, we have to learn how to really love people as people, take them where they are at, and do whatever we need to so that they can become stronger and healthier emotionally and spiritually.

I can appreciate the question, but you might as well ask why the sky is blue and dogs bark while you are at it....things are just the way they are. Some would say gays and lesbians are made that way through conditioning, others would say they are just born that way...who knows for sure

If Jesus was the only man we'd ever need, we'd be f'd bigtime. Besides, he's been dead awhile.

To the question, what makes you think it is a choice? Most research says it is not a choice. By research, I mean science, as opposed to crazy ramblings of the church.

How did Jesus feel about poor spelling?

Honestly, we have no clue at all what it is for lesbians. For homosexual men we have found that womb environment plays a role, but also environmental consequences come into play.

Whoever said "it is hormonal imbalance" is incorrect.
