I'm watching the 3rd place World Cup game of Portugal vs. Germany and a couple of times after a hard foul the players have words with each other - and both seem to understand each other. Soooo, what language are they argueing in when they do that?

My husband and I just discussed this very same question and decided that it is either english, because most people speak and understand at least some, or they are just yelling in their own language each trying to get their point across and don't really care about the reply from the other person. Would be interesting to know though.

You have to understand that except americans most of the world is very animated when they speak. Especially latin base language cultures like Portugal, Italy, Spain, South Americans. So thats one why they communicate. Also in world stage, thse world class players mostly speak English, or some speak French some Portugese and so on. Usually the players that play outside of their country learn or try to learn the language as well.

I'm guessing they all argue in their respective languages, and trust me, there are certain gestures that are universal, and anyone can understand..

No matter the language they are talking, they are calling each other names.
That's universal!
