I feel i could achieve so much more than i have done, but i persistantly slip back into either laziness or negative thinking, and end up doing nothing. I know im doing it, but keep doing it nonetheless, like there is some kind of mental block. I really struggle to keep focussed. Many thanks

"Laziness" is better-termed "short-term laziness" as a person usually ends up doing more in the end. "Long-term laziness" (doing things now so that they don't accumulate with compound interest) is not usually considered lazy, even though it involves deliberately doing the least.

Mental blocks of that kind are usually because you are playing to your weaknesses, somebody else's desires, or in fact anything other than your strengths and your genuine goals.

Struggling to stay focussed is usually the first - and worst - mistake. You're so busy focussing on the struggle that you lose focus on what you're trying to do.

You'll notice that those who are really top-notch in their fields seem to do things effortlessly. In fact, this perception is the wrong way round. They are top-notch BECAUSE they do things effortlessly. They don't divert any energy into struggling.

You cannot try to not think of an elephant, for example. The moment you try is the moment you force an elephant to be in your mind. The only way to not think of an elephant is to let it wander off. You can only achieve your goal passively, in this case.

Kepp going at a steady, even pace that is confortable. Don't stop or start more than you absolutely need to - that's when it's easiest to be diverted. A steady flow has the least turbulance, an unsteady flow will have the most.

For some things, music helps. Different sorts of music will help in different contexts. What you like is obviously important, as stressing yourself out is unlikely to help, but you also want something that is designed to go with what you're doing.

scan your priorities and work accordingly. do the important things more. become a vegetarian. take antioxidant vitamins that will help the flow of oxygyen to both your brain and your heart, and how about substituting the word "laziness" for energetic?? and ask your friends to come and drag you out of your mental block by providing you with some stimulating activities.

Check "Desiderata" again and get up five minutes earlier each day for the next month. Come September you will have an extra two and a half hours each morning to get your act together.

nope but if you find one I'd love to know.#
But seriously, you could try making a daily list of task to be achieved, including time out for relaxation, meals etc. and if you follow it rigorously for a few weeks/months it should become second nature.
don't forget to allow for unexpected int eruptions occurring - so don't fill up 24 hours a day.
Life has this way of throwing us curve balls when we plan too much!

Not thinking is nothingness. Thinking is not lazy. Your thoughts serve purpose. Focus is a game of strength.
